Amos Fortune

I like the book Amos Fortune. Amos is a 15 year old African chief that was taken away from his homeland and his people. He is taken to Massuchussets to be sold. He worked until his 60's with the Coakland family, and then the Richardsons. The Coakland father died, to the Richardson's took him in. Then the Richardson's father died, so the wife gave him freedom. He worked as a tanner in the Richardson family so Amos became a tanner. He worked until he had enough money to buy a wife. He wanted a wife.

He bought a slave named Lily. She died in less than a year so Amos bought another wife named Lydia. She too died but Amos had the satisfaction of knowing that she died free. Then Amos bought another wife named Violet and her daughter Cylindia. They moved from their town Woburn to a place called Jaffrey. Amos sold his house and bought an old horse named Cyclops. Someone told him he would get more tanner customers in Jaffrey. He made friends with the Constable and the Constable gave him an acre of land. Then in 10 years Amos buys 25 acres of land. This helps him a lot with his work. He had doubts about buying that land because he wanted to help the Burdoo's. The mother, Lois, had a way with wasting money and all of it going away. So his wife Violet told him that he shouldn't do that because they waste their money very fast.

So Amos asked Lois if she would let her boys work for him and he would pay them. Now Amos had workers! He had 2 apprentices who worked and helped him tan the leather. Now he had 4 people working for him. Now Amos had work and lots of money! He worked a lot and he was getting old. He was 80! That is very old back then. He was born in 1706. Then he put his new money in a different place. Violet wondered what he was doing but she didn't ask. Then when he was 80-90, he went to the deacon of the church and donated 100's of pounds! That's 1000's of dollars back then! He donated it to the school that Cylindia went to. Then he asked for his gravestone and Violet's to be specially written and made.

R.I.P Amos Fortune. A good man. Age: 91
R.I.P Violette Fortune. A great Woman. Age: 76

Anne Frank By Jack

Anne Frank/ANF was a famous Jew who wrote a diary of her life in the 1900's. She started her diary when she was 13. Sadly, she died when 15. Hitler made Germany rise to power and to take over the world. This is bad. Germany started with killing Jews and then Britain, Italy, Ireland, North Africa etc. My grandpa was born in 1942 so he was a baby when the war started.

Just imagine. Hiding in cellars, annexes, holes, etc for months! This war is very bad. So ANF was born in 1929. Her sister Margo is 3 years older. Then they move to Amsterdam. She is 14 or 15 when she starts hiding with 8 people in a hidden annex. They remained there for like 2 months? Soon The Nazis found them and put them in concentration camp. ANF gave her diary to her father, Otto Frank. When they went to different camps, everyone except Otto was alive. This was sad. Then Otto read his daughter's diary and fulfilled his daughter's wishes to publish to book. Thanks to Otto, The Frank family is famous! Soon, Hitler and his army were invading Paris. Britain, Russia, etc. came to help and stop the Nazis. When Hitler saw his army failing, he killed himself! That is good and bad. You shouldn't do that, but he was crazy. Soon the Nazis were defeated and people exploded their logo and creations. There was joy to the world and complete sadness. Then Otto published his daughter's diary. There were about 170,000 Jews  who went to camps and only 5000 survived! One of them was Otto.

Tanning by Jack

Tanning is a long process to make leather in colonial times. This leather makes coats, shirts, shoes, socks, etc.

There is still tanning today! First, you need a hide. Get oak bark and mash it into a powder.

Now soak the hide and wash it for 48 hours. Then you remove pores and membranes by putting it in sulphuric acid for 3 days. Be careful. This stuff can burn you! Then you unhair it again. Then you bate it (whatever that is). Tanning can take months or even years! You get a lot of money depending on the quality. Rushing fast for the leather can make it stiff and hard. Tanning is pretty cool but it takes up so much of your time. Deer, cow, ox, horse, moose etc. are what people tanned a lot in the colonial times. So much of your stuff is leather and you don't even know it! I <3 Leather!

Perspective and Golden Eagle

Perspective is a cool game that you move a guy around and the guy only walks on blue colored blocks. You can connect the blocks by moving your perspective around. You can move your character by left clicking and WASD. Then click again and you can move your perspective somewhere else! You do this until you find the end of the level. You can get this game for free. I would recommend it because it is a really cool game. It has HD graphics and is full of hard and fun levels!

A golden eagle is a bird of prey in the northern hemisphere. These birds are brown and golden-brownish on their napes. They build high nests usually by cliffs. They feast on fish, marmots, hares, and ground squirrels. Golden Eagles live in North parts of America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Their egg hatching lasts 6 weeks and they are monogamous, meaning they are mates for years or forever. These birds have been known in falconry and they have been known to hunt down gray wolves. What more surprises do these birds have! The golden eagles have been known to be important in ancient tribal culture.

Michigan Flint river

You probably know about this but Michigan switched from healthy water from Huron, to the iron+lead Flint River. This has been going on for 2 years! Imagine you are drinking for 2 years water with lead in it and you die. Many have moved out of their homes due to the poisonous water. This is very VERY bad. This was a way for the government to 'save money'. Instead they were sued. This water started off with brownish water with iron until the government didn't want to filter it and soon lead came. Lead can be very bad for your brain, blood etc. You could forget stuff, and it could be harder to learn. I'm pretty sure many people have died and they are forced to drink it to live. The best idea is to sell your house and the government is only giving filters and bottled water, only to save money. I hope the government switches back from the Flint river to Lake Huron. This is like #PrayForParis instead it is #PrayForHealthyWater. I don't know so much about this but I know it is pretty bad.

Double Crested Cormorant by Jack

The cormorant is a big black fishing bird that lives around rivers like the Mississippi, Ohio, Missouri, and Arkansas. It has a big neck and a little smaller than a stork.

Basically all along the US major rivers. These birds are experts at diving and fishing. Just imagine a black loon with a bulkier body. These birds are known in some places of the coast. The adult's are black brown and the immature's have a brown body. They have a small patch of yellow skin between their eyes and the middle of the beak. The Cormorant's beak is hooked and very thin. They form colonies of twig nests on trees on an island or on flooded trees/timber. This bird is very well known near the Mid-US rivers. This bird is like a loon and a stork combined.

This is obviously a cormorant.

That's all for today people!

Paul Bunyan

Paul Bunyan was a fictional giant lumberjack that cut down trees wherever he went. People said he had many birthplaces.  Maine, Minnesota, I could go on.
Walt Disney created a cartoon in 1958 called Paul Bunyan. The show is about pretty much what I explained up there.
With his double bladed ax, nothing could stop him from chopping trees, except nighttime I guess.
His pet which he would load wood in was Babe the Blue Ox. Together, they built towns and big cities. Wood was valuable back then. Later, this guy and Paul Bunyan had a contest of who could collect the most wood. With a chain saw and a train, Joe, one of the competitors won against Paul Bunyan. Paul collected 240 and Joe got 240.1 so Joe won. The show is fiction because when Paul played with Babe, they made mountains, which you cannot do in real life. Stretching a river you cannot do, and grabbing Aurora Borealis and tossing it around is impossible.
You can find the Paul Bunyan show on Youtube, or find out about the statues on Wikipedia.

Paul Bunyan is very interesting! :D

Paul Bunyan

Everyone knows the famous folklore story; Paul Bunyan. Paul was a giant. Paul helped many people, and the people fed him, and gave him clothes. He could chop down many trees with a small swing, and he had his companion, Babe, the blue ox to help him. He was carried to a town by 5 storks. He helped this town and the town made him a double-sided axe.

Paul chopped down hundreds, No, thousands of trees for the people! He solved many problems and did many things like stretch a crooked river into a straight one. He roughhoused with Babe and make a mountain range. Then a man invented the steam saw and Paul Bunyan challenged him to see who could chop down more trees. Paul and the inventor raced and chopped until it was stacked. Oh no! Paul Bunyan lost by a quarter inch! Paul was sad so he traveled to Alaska with Babe. There they roughhoused so much, that the Aurora Borealis shook! And that is the story of Paul Bunyan.

The French and Indian War was a major war fought in the American Colonies between 1754 and 1763. (9 years)
The French and British fought in the war. Both sides had American Indian allies. The French allied with several tribes including the Shawnee, Lenape, Ojibwa Ottawa and the Algonquin peoples. The British allied with the Iroquois, Catawba, and the Cherokee.
The war was fought mostly in the Northeast along the border between the British colonies and the French Colonies of New France.
The War ended on Feb 10th, 1763 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. France gave up their North American territory. Britain gained all the land east of the Mississippi River and Spain gained the land west of the Mississippi.

Which means French lost and British won.

Paul Revere

Paul Revere was born on January 1st, 1735 in Boston. Paul was a silversmith, engraver, early industrialist etc. He was the famous man who told the Colonies "The British Were Coming!". It is important he saw the British coming because the Colonies could get ready for war. Then Benjamin Franklin asked the French for help and they won! Paul Revere played a big part in the Revolutionary war. This act was so important that people made a song called the The Midnight Ride Of Paul Revere. This guy was cool! People are happy for what he did.

John Adams

John Adams was born in 1735. He was the 2nd president, a lawyer, and the 1st vice president! His son, John Quincy Adams was the 6th President! He was in office from March 4, 1797 – March 4, 1801. John Adams became an attorney when he was 23. In 1764 he married Abigail Smith. A year later he wrote a powerful speech against the Stamp Act in 1765.

After John Adams' time of being a president was up, he was depressed and moved to Peacefield, Massachussets. In 1812, he was corresponding with Thomas Jefferson. John Adams died at his home, only hours after Thomas Jefferson died. To me it is very sad because 2 FAMOUS people died that day. He is remembered as one of the best founding fathers.

Diplocaulus

Diplocaulus is a prehistoric amphibian with a Boomerang shaped head. It was 3 ft long.
Image result for images of diplocaulus
This amphibian's head probably kept predators from eating easily, and this head probably acted like a hydrofoil so it could glide in the water. This amphibian had a stocky, salamander like body. This animal lived during the Early and Late Permian. It swam up and down probably because its weak limbs and short tail made it hard so swim sideways. Rare fossils show that diplocaulus' boomerang head was connected to the body by skin flaps.

Koolasuchus: The Prehistoric Amphibian

Koolasuchus was a amphibian that lived during the Aptian stage of the early Cretaceous. The amphibian was huge! It inhabited Southern Australia. During that time Australia was near where Antarctica is. It was discovered in 1997. This colossal amphibian swam in cold water where crocodiles never went. The crocodilians did not like the cold water.

It moved slow on land, due to its tiny arms and legs. It grew to around 4 - 5 meters. That's twice the size of a Japanese Giant Salamander! The part of its name "Cool" describes that it swam in cold water.

Kingdom:Animalia
Phylum:Chordata
Order:Temnospondyli
Suborder:Stereospondyli
Family:Chigutisauridae
Genus:

Koolasuchus

Like other Chigutisaurids, It had a wide rounded head with tabular horns projecting from the back part of the skull. Its skull was 65 cm long! This species survived because it could adapt to the cold water. It's eyes are on top of it's skull.

That's all for this prehistoric amphibian!

Too much

Too Much Computer time can be bad for you. TOO Much of anything can be bad for you. Computers can be bad for your eyes but computers can be educational for you. For everything, Too much is bad. Even too much exercise is bad! Your brain probably doesn't suffer much but your eyes do. Computers in darkness increases the chance of insomnia. Computers has pro's and con's. But remember, don't sit around a computer all the time because there is radiation that could cause cancer. That is bad! EMF waves come from the computer and can cause diseases. So listen to you parents and go outside! Also wash your face because it gets rid of the EMF particles attached to your face. Bananas can reduce the eye strain because of the Potassium. Take a computer break every 20 minutes also.

Go Outside!

The 13 Colonies

The 13 Colonies originated from England. Immigrants traveled to America for better lives. The 13 Colonies are Massachusetts, North Carolina, Maine, Georgia, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Conneticut, Pensyllvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, And New York. This all started in Massachusetts. The Mayflower set sail to MAS. The Pilgrims found nice Indians, good food, water, and wood. They settled on Cape Cod. Virginia Dare was the first white baby born in America. America was already discovered before the Mayflower set sail. Roanoke island has a mystery of lost people in Indian Tribes. That is strange! When America became popular, more people came to get a better life. They had to go through starvation and sickness to survive. Many did not make it. It was hard back then. Then the government fought back against the British. Britain lost because the French were with the Americans.

Stay tuned for more!
