The Pleistocene was a period you have probably heard about. The Ice Age! The Ice Age was full of megafauna. Fauna means animal in greek so
Megafauna are bigger. (Examples) Glyptodon, Mammoth, Smilodon (Saber Tooth Tiger), Megatherium, Mastodon, Terrorbirds, Cave Bear, Dire Wolf, Wooly Rhinoceros etc.
This period ended 11k years ago!
That was the previous period. We, humans have lived in the early Pleistocene. Imagine what it was like back then! Barely any humans,
Many dangers, Lots of things had tusks and armour, and things were BIG. Glyptodon was bigger than a human! Glyptodon looks like an
armodillo. When the Earth moved, North America and South America combined. South America's Terrorbirds were soon tooken over by Smilodon.
Smilodon became apex predator of South America. Terrorbirds still lived but they now ate small prey. 11 Thousand Years ago, The Pleistocene
ended! Many species were wiped out including Smilodon. Scientists think a comet hit Southern Canada and wiped species out.
