Marshes - Jack

I am writing about Marshes.

Marshes are all over the world. There can be Northern Marshes and Southern Marshes. Northern Marshes are full of bass, fish, bears, ducks, deer, moose, geese, mice, minks, raccoons, beavers, and more! The water is a bit cold and is rocky.

Southern marshes hold animals like fish, crocodiles, alligators, tigers, water buffalo and a few more. These marshes are sandy and some southern marshes have quicksand. These southern marshes could be anywhere with a lot of water, and life like a jungle.

Marshes can be anywhere fertile and wet. 🌲🌳🌴 Northern marshes are in places like Canada and the U.S. These ones have a lot of grass and they freeze in the winter. They are mostly surrounded by pine trees and some have dams built in the water. A marsh is pretty much a wet, soggy waterhole full of life. Most are bigger than a pond. Northern ones also have lily pads in the water. There is not many in The really Far East. The land is more bamboo-ish then marshy. Marshes are like swamps, but smaller. There could be marshes in Egypt though. There is no current in marshes so you can't get dragged away by water. If you see a ripple, assume it is a waterbug or anything bigger. People used to fish in Marshes but I think they went to lakes to fish.

That is all I know for Marshes!

Iron ore Lake superior river

Iron ore is mined by people, transferred into mining carts, connected by a underground mining train, and the train transfers the ore in this elevator thingy and transported to the surface. Most of the shipping ore has to be crushed. Washing is the common practice of iron. They wash it so stuff of iron goes away, so this is why people keep rivers clean. The waste goes away. Transportation vehicles can transport other thing that is useful in the mine. Freight carries supply for lots of workers.

Iron ore mining is complicated and hard, but it's worth it for your state!!!!! Not now though, this was in the 19th century. We use iron to build stuff, like cities, and other stuff. It is also sometimes used for smelting. You need iron to smelt before it is useful!!!

The Seven Continents! Jack

Here are three facts about each continent.

Asia
Asia is where most seafood is caught and created.
Asia is the biggest continent in the world!
And, Asia is the top producing continent. Most items in the US comes from Asia.
Australia
Australia is home to animals that do not exist elsewhere in the world, for example, the Platypus.
The north of Australia is warm in winter. In the south the winters are colder. That is because the south is closer to the Antarctic, and the north is closer to the equator
Australia means southern in Latin.
Antarctica
Antarctica's coldest record was about -316 Degrees Fahrenheit!
It is the 5th largest continent in the world!
Antarctica is not really a continent. It is an iceberg. Sort of.
North America
North America was discovered by Vikings.
Indians were the 1st people in America. They have encountered the Vikings.
Then Christopher Columbus discovered America for Spain.
South America
South America had two main Indian tribes, The Incas and Aztecs.
The Spainiards conquered South America and stole their jewelry :(
Machu Picchu is a Peruvian town that was a hiding place for the Incas when The Spaniards came. That's where all the Incan's retreated to.

Europe
Europe is the homeland of the Vikings.
Europe holds many rivers, but the biggest is The Danube River.
The Celts were the first people in England. So these people are our ancestors.

Africa
The 1st evolved people lived in Africa. They were hairy like monkeys but they were people. They killed prey by using sharp rocks and flint. Africa is where we get malaria mosquitos, which kill 30% Of the population in the world! Nomadic people still roam the plains, but many stopped moving across the continent.

Continents

Continents are several very large landmasses on the planet. The continents are, North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, Antartica, and Australia.

North America is where most people live, and is a big country. USA, (united states of america)is what it is called. There are 50 states in the country, and totally united.

South America is pretty much connected to US and smaller than US. South America is bordered on west by the Pacific Ocean and on north Atlantic Ocean and northwest of South America is the Caribbean Sea.

Australia is an Oceanic Country and a small continent. It is the world's sixth-largest country by area. Australia was claimed by Great Britain in 1770.

Asia is huge, and populated with huge rivers and lots and lots of people. It is bounded on eat by the Pacific Ocean on South by the Indian Ocean and on north by the Arctic Ocean.

Europe is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, Atlantic Ocean west Mediterranean Sea. The south way is the Black sea. Europe is a big country!

Africa is the world's second-largest continent. It is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to north way, both the Suez Canal and the Red sea.

Antartica is big, and the coldest thing on Earth. Did you know that Antartica is a huge iceberg??? That is why it is a continent also.

Those are the continents in the world. They are so cool!!!

whales

                                                                           Whales

Do you like whales??? I like whales. They are really big. Here are 5 Interesting Facts about Whales.

1. Whales can live all over.
2. Narwhals are found in cold areas and they have a huge tooth that sticks out!!
3. Whales create bubble traps. The bubble traps are used to catch fish.
4. Whale sharks are about 41.5 feet in length. That is maybe longer than my house!!!
5. Whales are one of the biggest creatures in the world.

This is a whale shark:

My favorite sea creature

My favorite sea creature is a whale shark.
Whale sharks are the biggest sharks today and they are harmless. I think they are about 100 ft. long or less. There is one from Taiwan in the Georgia Aquarium. NARWHALS ARE NOT WHALES AND YOU DO NOT SPELL IT LIKE NARWHALE. The species originated about 60,000,000 years ago. Welcome to the Cretaceous Period! Whale sharks eat krill only. Or anything small like zooplankton. You'll know if you spotted a whale shark because whale sharks have spots, and is blue. The spots are white.             \
                        \
M      MMMMMMMMM\
   MM                     O         |.  ..........::;;:...:;;:..;::.:;
M       MMMMMMMMM/

Whale sharks are just big sharks with spots and eat krill and anything small. They have mouths like basking sharks which are also harmless, and eat krill. They are in the deep ocean in any ocean except the Antarctic waters.πŸ’§πŸ’¦πŸŒπŸ—ΎπŸ  I am not sure if it is a mammal, but I think it is a fish.

And that is all for whale sharks today!

LEGO Robotics

Legos are fun but have you heard of legos moving by themselves??? LEGO Robotics can make them move, shoot, attack and other cool stuff!!! The LEGO Robot I want from the first kit is this:
It is really cool. It is called the R3TAR. It can move fast, move it's head back and forth, and DRAW AND ATTACK!!!!!
These are EV3 robots, that you can program yourself! Control it with the Lego Mindstorms (lego robot creators) on your Mobile Device or infrared remote! It also has a camera that you can use on your computer to see things of what the robot's current vision is. You can see who's there and strike!
It is really funny and cool. The R3TAR has 4 fangs and when you strike it opens it's mouth with it. Other robots you can create can grab stuff, shoot stuff like the EV3 robot the first robot it is when you get it. One thing which is really keeping me away from it is the price. I can build anything with the robots, even my own robot just like others made one without instructions but the price!!!! $349.99!!! My friend Frankie can buy one, he has $350!!! It starts from this robot: and as you can see, on the bottom right up form one of the robots, there is the R3PTAR. Also there are other popular ones, like EV3RSTORM, which is shown, TRACK3R, GRIPP3R, SPIK3R, and the one I want, R3PTAR. Lego robotics, take time, knowledge, and programming the Programmer Brick that comes with the set. All I want is THE LEGO ROBOT!!

- Jack The Vikings

          The Vikings

The Vikings were Northern pirates that attacked the coasts of Europe. There is no more         Vikings now. Vikings came from Scandinavia/Finland, Norway, and Sweden. I have been reading about Eric The Red. He was a crazy, famous viking! He discovered Greenland too. His son leaf, discovered America! They met Indians too! They were hostile also.

Before they found America, they discovered a barren island, a forest island, and a GRAPE island! The crew of Vikings and Leif discovered grapes in that area so they built another ship and stored it with wine and grapes. They brought some back to feed Greenland. Eric died D:  . The crew was sad. And Leif said he will never go back so then a group of Icelandic traders went to trade with Greenland and then Leif told them about the west and the Indians. So the Icelandic people went there but further south and found Indians. They fought first, but then they wanted to trade with them so they traded. But when a Bull/Cow ran loose, the Indians thought that the Icelandic people did this so they attacked. The Iceland people fled and then next Christopher Columbus came and fought the Indians and won. And Leif stayed and watched over Greenland because he was the Chief.

And that is the story of the Vikings and America!

- Jack How_I_Feel_About_5th_Grade

How I feel about 5th Grade.

Its Fun! I like the new stuff were doing like the Wordly Wise, Botany, Spelling, History, and          Literature! My favorite is probably the Vikings/History and Paddle-To-The-Sea/Literature. We started a few days ago so its really fun! :D. In botany we are learning the cells of a plant. There is a vacuole, which holds the water in a plant, a nucleus, which holds the DNA, The endoplasmic-reticulum, is a network of tubes coming from the nucleus, the mitochondria gives off energy to the cells, and, The Golgi Body, packages and labels stuff like oxygen and water. And thats all to a plant!

I'm Looking forward to little road trips like the New's & Observer trip. We got to see how newspaper was made and written! Our guide, has travelled the Himalayas, and went through the eye of a hurricane! I might ask mom if we could go somewhere like a candy or chocolate factory. Cocoa beans may have a mild flavor, but its good...... We might go to Williamsburg. Williamsburg was an old colony. It was also one of the 1st. That would be good history to learn.

I am also looking forward to awesome literature that involves, adventure, nature, and danger. Like Odysseus! :D. I wonder what else we will learn in botany and it would also be fun if we do a class that involves weather. But it should be a short class like Spelling.

And that is what I'm looking forward to this year!

Finn's first post!

My first post is our trip to Florida. We drove 10 hours in the car. When we were there, we rented a house before we got there so we unloaded the truck, chose rooms and played in the pool the house had. The pool behind it was the St. Lucie River. Dolphins are found there. Later on in our vacation, Me and my Mom threw food crumbs in the river. Some needlefish came and nibbled, and when we saw a fish jump, we threw it near where it jumped to see if any crumbs were eaten. We did this at the house wooden dock, behind the pool. When we were walking back we saw 4 stingrays. They were really cool!!! We also saw a big fish swim by them. It was huge!!!! When I was going to see if dolphins were out in the morning, I see a fish jump and then a swarm of something swirling around where the fish jumped. What was that spiral thing around the fish???

After a week rental of the house, we left and spent the rest of the vacation at my Mom's friends house, Li and Poppy Woppy, (that's what we call him) They are looking after 2 Special dogs, Freddie and Tad. Freddie is a girl and Tad is a boy. Freddie was found by the owner of Tad on a road in Mississippi. The owner had Tad. Freddie stays at Li and Poppy Woppy's house and when ever I leave with my family and come back, Freddie jumps off the couch, runs up to the kitchen, into the mudroom and then lies over on her back and lets me scratch her tummy :P. Meanwhile, Tad, barks behind Freddie while Freddie lets me scratch her tummy. Tad is a shy dog, but he is cuddly. Freddie is brown and tad is white. Tad likes sitting on three red-velvet colored couches. Li and Poppy Woppy also have a pool. We play in it a little. We usually play with the dogs. 2 dogs I forgot to talk about was Princess and Ricky. Princess died of old age. :(. Ricky is a old dog who has Brain Tumor, it is like a disease in his head. Ricky is still alive :D. Last time we were there Li said Ricky is going to die and you won't see him next time you come here, but the is still alive!! :D:D:D!!

We also play with Uncle Mikey, Aunt  Julie, Palmer, Nilla, which is their dog and a month old baby Quinn!!! We play at Grandma and Grandpa's house all day. Grandpa can do anything!! He is building a car. He is also a great cook. So is grandma. We play with Cameron and Genevieve and Uncle Matt.

We went paddle boarding also on a river. It was harder than I thought!!! :P.

Florida is a great place. Another greater vacation is coming!!!!!

Jack

My trip to Florida.        We= Finn, Jack, And Eva

My trip to Florida was great! We rented a river home on the St. Lucie River. The house was a 1 story and had a room for all of us except Sam. Sam slept where he wanted. Me and Finn shared a room by the entrance. Eva's was just down the hallway. Mom and Dad's was on the opposite side of the house. They had a nice backyard and pool! It was great for catching lizards because around the pool was full of them in the sun. Unfortunately, I didn't catch one.

One day we went to Carabbas Italian Grill. After we ate, My mom's Friend Li introduced us to this place that had 32 inch lizards. I think they were native to Jamaica. They were called Rainbow lizards. Most of them had black and orange on them. Then we went back and Li made a Peach Pie. It was delicious! Eva said she didn't like it… I used Dad's GoPro Camera and filmed underwater.

We saw our cousins that we haven't seen in 3 years! We also went to a place called Shakras Deli for lunch. It was out last day. Us and our Relatives went to a lagoon! I saw fish in the water and a few crabs. Some small parts were pretty deep, but some other parts were shallow. There was a strong current too. We hung there for a while and then went to Grandma's house. We celebrated our Mom's B-Day and played in the pool. Most of us went paddle boarding and I even got to see my new cousin Quinn!! It took about 30 minutes to get to the lagoon. Most of us ate Li's brownies. They were so good! We only rented the river house for a week and the other week we stayed at Li's house. There are 3 dogs. Freddie is a girl and she is very fun and energetic. She is brown. Tad is a shy, small white gray dog that likes to hide. Ricky is a furry, small, white dog that has a tumer. D: D: D: D: The doctors said he will die in 80 days but that was like a year ago. Right now he lives 9 times the doctors said he will live. I also lost a tooth at Grandma's! It was cool.

Florida was so fun! I want to go back right now. Florida has great adventures!
